* NO SCHOOL ON MEMORIAL DAY: MONDAY, MAY 27
School will be closed for students and staff on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 28. It will be an "A" day for student elective classes.

* AWARD CEREMONIES FOR ALL GRADES: FRIDAY, JUNE 7
Awards Ceremonies for all 3 grades will take place on Friday, June 7. Times are as follows:
Grade 7: 8:45-9:45
Grade 6: 10:15-11:15
Grade 8: 1:30-2:30 followed by a reception in the media center.
There will be NO early dismissal after the awards.

* ATHLETIC MEETING RISING 9s CARY HS: TUES. MAY 21 at CARY HS
There will be a meeting for players and parents of any rising 9th grade students interested in participating in sports at Cary High School next year. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 21 in the auditorium at Cary High School. General athletic information will be shared from 6:30-7:00pm. Individual team meetings including football, men's soccer, baseball and women's basketball will take place from 7:00-7:30pm. Please plan to attend.

* EOG PROCTORS: MAY 20 TO 23 AND MAY 31
End of Grade testing requires participation from the greater RCMS community. Each and every test room needs a proctor (test monitor) to ensure the safe and fair administration of tests. Testing is held from 8:00 to 11:30. Please check to see if your workplace supports volunteering in the community. To proctor, you will need to: 1. Sign-up on the volunteer registry - Mondays only at a WCPSS facility like RCMS 2. Sign-up for a date or two, and 3. come for a short training before the test. You can leave a message for Mr. Kim Douglas with any questions or concerns on the sign-up page. Many thanks for your support of the testing program.

* FREE ATHLETIC PHYSICALS: SEVERAL LOCATIONS AND DATES
Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine is offering $10 physicals for Middle and High School Athletes. They have several locations and dates available in May. You must bring your Middle School Athletic Paricipation form with. See the Athletics page for details and dates.

* SPONSORSHIP AND FUNDRAISING: 8TH GRADE DANCE
Some "eagles" are flying up and the 8th grade dance is a great chance to celebrate the occasion! There are several opportunities for the greater RCMS community to contribute to the dance's success. You can SPONSOR some of the activities like music or refreshments, please see the SPONSORSHIP FLYER. Or, you can join with others from RCMS at CICI's on Thursday, May 2nd, 4 to 10, Maynard and Cary Towne Blvd, and CICI's will contribute to our school. * 8TH GRADE DANCE: PLANNING AND DONATIONS
8th grade parents are invited to planning meeting for the 8th grade dance on Wednesday, April 24th at 3:15. If you would like to help but cannot make the meeting, please contact the PTA or Mrs. Hoyes, the staff liason for the dance. Donations for the dance should be turned in to your student's guided study teacher by May 3rd.

EOG night helps students and parents prepare for testing in May. Test preparation materials and testing tips are featured. The evening will also showcase a student and staff talent show! EOG preparation is from 6 to 6:45 and the talent show is from 7 to 8:30.

* KALEIDOSCOPE ART SHOW 2013: APRIL 1 - APRIL 11
The Reedy Creek Art Department is honored to be participating in "The Kaleidoscope Art Show" at Cary Town Center from April 1, 2013 until April 11, 2013. * KUDOS TO THE 8TH GRADE BAND
Congratulations to the RCMS 8th Grade Band! On Wednesday, March 20, the RCMS 8th Grade Band performed at the Music Performance Adjudication event at Ligon Middle School, sponsored by the North Carolina Bandmasters Association. Each participating band performed three concert selections and then sight-read a piece of music they have never seen before. The Reedy Creek Band received an Excellent rating for their stage performance (second highest rating possible) and a Superior rating for their sight-reading performance (highest rating possible).

* VOLUNTEERS FOR 8TH GRADE DANCE: FRIDAY, MAY 31
Parents of 8th grade students: On May 31st there is a dance for 8th graders. This is an annual event sponsored by the parents. Donations and volunteers are needed to organize and run the dance. We need your help! If you are interested in helping plan the dance please contact Robin Bunting at ladybirdbunting@hotmail.com. There will be a meeting for all volunteers in the coming weeks to get the project underway. Donations are requested from each 8th grade family to cover expenses for decorations, the DJ and refreshments. Please send your donations in to the school office marked 8th grade dance. Cash or checks made out to PTA are accepted. Thank you for helping the 8th grade class end the year with a fun dance!

* WAKE TECH HEALTH SCIENCES OPEN HOUSE: SATURDAY,APRIL 6
On April 6th from 10am to 2pm, students and their families will be able to tour Wake Tech Health Sciences Campus, labs and classrooms, plus be able to talk with faculty and students and participate in educational activities. Miss Ashley Mills, NC Graduate, Miss NC USA for 2013, will talk with 8th grade students at 8:45 about her experiences in high school and engage students in creating safe school communities, free from violence and fear of physical and emotional intimidation. You can view her biography.

* 2 RCMS STUDENTS SELECTED FOR NC ALL STATE JAZZ BAND

Jazz Band WinnersReedy Creek Middle School Musicians Advance to All States

Since last September Charlie Sothcott (trombone)and Chris Inhulsen (trumpet) have been preparing, practicing, auditioning, and advancing to the next level based on audition results. Their accomplishments include participation in County Band, District Band, and Regional Jazz Band this academic year. On Saturday March 9th both Sothcott and Inhulsen auditioned and were selected to participate in the NC All-State Jazz Band to be held at NCCU in April. Charlie Sothcott was also selected to participate in the 2013 NC All-State Honors Band being held at UNC-Greensboro in May.

* CREEK MADNESS WAS FUN
Creek Madness was FUN! Thank you to the students, parents, staff and Cary Invasion players who participated in the PTA Creek Madness Basketball Game on February 28th. The event was a success and a great time was had by all! The PTA wishes to thank the RCMS Jr. Beta Club students for their work at the event! Thank you to our sponsors who donated t-shirts, and door prizes. Thank you to the Cary Invasion and Harlem Globetrotters for donating tickets to upcoming games!

* VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION: MONDAYS ONLY 8 TO 4 AT ANY WCPSS FACILITY
Reedy Creek is in need of volunteer participation to assist with testing: bench mark and end of grade testing. Registration must be completed at any WCPSS facility on a Monday between the hours of 8 and 4. The registration process takes about 15 minutes and is completed through a secure online site.

* EARLY CHECK OUT REMINDER
Early Check-Out: Checking Children Out Early: If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please be sure to check them out before 2:30 pm. If you wait until after that time, you run the risk of getting caught in the carpool line. Traditionally the end of the day is a very busy time, so we would like to take care of early check-out before then. Identification is required before your child is released.
