Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

From the PTA President : Robin Bunting

Greetings from the PTA President:

Well you did it! Another year of school has been achieved and soon summer will be here! The PTA was busy this year in support of our school and it has been a great year!

Thank you to all the students, parents, faculty, staff and administration that have worked with the PTA this year to make our programs and events such a success! We appreciate the volunteers, and their time and efforts in making RCMS such a great place to be.

The PTA this year was instrumental in bringing in artists, poets, musicians and dancers as well as semi pro basketball team members to educate and encourage our students on their educational, and developmental journey. Our volunteers hosted hospitality events for parents, students and faculty to thank them for their hard work.

We helped organize the Buddy Up Against Bullying 5k and Art Contest with Officer Christian and Mr. Campbell. Our team put together Creek Madness, a staff, student and parent basketball
game. Your PTA engaged with our school leaders, Officer Christian and the Town of Cary in support of the Red Ribbon Week - Anti Drug Education Campaign.

We donated funds to staff grants which permitted our faculty to supplement their classroom learning tools in an effort to make our students more successful. Our Reflections team supported our talented students who submitted art work for the National PTA Reflections program, and we are thrilled that several of our students placed at the local and county levels and earned awards.

Your PTA published a newsletter and hosted a website to keep all informed of PTA events and school happenings. The PTA offered spirit wear to students to show their school pride and wear during physical education classes and sporting events.

The fall and spring book fair was sponsored by the PTA and we were able to offer over $700 in book credit for our school media center. We offered support to the art and music programs at RCMS and our volunteers supported our students at Special Olympics in April. The PTA together with the RCMS Wildlife Club and Beta Club planted the front gardens with over 100 packages of flower seeds and placed a pink crabapple tree in the garden in honor of Mrs. Hurst Wilson who we lost last year.

The PTA worked with the school PBIS team to promote positive behavior. We supplied cart items for student awards and participated in PBIS meetings. Our volunteers tutored, proctored tests, read to students, and offered many volunteer hours in support of classroom faculty and classrooms. We made a lot of photocopies, posters and newsletters too, not to mention collecting and counting Box Tops for Education.

It has been a tremendous year and I personally want to thank the PTA Executive Board and Chairpersons along with Mr. Flowers our Principal, Officer Christian our school resource officer, and Mrs. Barnes the staff representative for the PTA for all their hard work this year and willingness to Make It Happen!

The PTA Executive Board has been voted in for next year and their names and positions are listed in this newsletter. Thank you to those individuals who stepped up and volunteered for leadership and chair positions. I am confident that this new PTA team will be a success in working with you next year at RCMS.

As you know, Mr. Flowers is moving on after the school year ends to pursue a new stage in his career. He has been a strong supporter of the RCMS PTA and it has been a pleasure to have an administrator offer his time and support to the PTA. Mr. Flowers, thank you for your support and best of luck to you in
the future.
